Well, we had another snow day yesterday, so my husband was home for Valentine's Day, a treat we've
been getting used to this month. He's already had 3 snow days and he is off next week for February break. We had to cancel our dinner reservations at a restaraunt I have been longing to go to for a while now. We just live too far away to make the journey in this weather. Steve spent the day keeping the one exit we have from our house clear as the snow kept drifting against it. Our sliding back door has been frozen shut for a couple weeks now.
We both worked on our Valentines for each other throughout the day. Fedex managed to deliver the curtains and fountains of orchids my husband picked out for me. The card I made for him is to the left, we made dinner together, and had to eat on the clear corner of the table. As you can see in the orchid picture our dossier has taken up permanent residence until it gets sent out.
My wonderful husband wrote a song for me that made me cry from the first note that lifted off his tongue. He tried to get me the autobiography of my personal hero, Wangari Maathai. The staff at Barnes & Noble informed him that they were all sold out, but took him to the place it should have been just to make sure, and right where Mrs. Maathai's book should have been was, Meeting Sophie: A Memoir of Adoption by Nancy McCabe. It is about a single mother who adopted from China. The fatefulness of it all drove him to give it to me as my Valentine. Read a review here.
It was a wonderful Valentine's Day -- being snowed in with my favorite person, snuggling by the fire, using our talents to make each other happy, a perfect Valentine's Day and all the reasons why we'd like to be parents to share all those things with a little one. Even though she isn't physically here she was here with us, ever present at dinner through her dossier, softly creeping into our conversation, quietly by the fireside with us in a book... and warmly in our hearts.

I had a great time too!
Love,
Steven
