My hair is long! Not super super long, but it is heading that way. If you haven't followed check out why I am growing my hair. The long and short of it (ha!) is I am growing it as a way to measure my wait for my daughter. Instead of a growing belly I have growing hair. One benefit--no stretch marks, cool!! But I do have to deal with dun, dun, dun... split ends. Now, I have been tempted to chop the hair so I could have a cute bouncy full head of hair. But I am committed to my chosen measure of my adoption wait and to Locks of Love, so I won't cut it. The other day I noticed a most dreaded split end. I pulled it out and I was amazed what can happen to a strand that is fractions of millimeters thin. There was a split that went up almost the whole length of the hair! and... there were lots of little splits that looked like the hairs on a bug's leg, eeww! Great for bug legs but not great for my mane! Coincidentally the other night there was a small piece on the news about how to grow a healthy long head of hair. Since I am donating the hair when I am finally united with my daughter I want the hair to be as healthy and beautiful as possible for the child who gets my hear to for their crowning glory. So here are some tips:
- wash your hair only every other day
- condition only the ends
- use a comb rather than a brush, especially on wet hair
- trim it regularly to prevent and treat split ends
That said I am going to TRIM it. So I am not cheating I am actually ensuring healthier longer hair. Now if only this wait could get shorter, the longer the wait the longer the hair, I would be okay cutting it tomorrow if you catch my drift! I am not giving up on this adoption. I wont abandon this process I just wish my hair wasn't trying to split.
Post-trim pictures coming as soon as mom does the deed!

Hi Karin,
Your description of the split hair makes it sound like an art piece!
Maybe you should photograph it with various angles and lighting for future use? If you have access to a darkroom, it might work as a B/W contact print (a la Man Ray), or you could try coating it with paint or ink and lay it on paper?
Sorry ... getting carried away there.
Good luck with the small event (trimming) leading to the big event!
